Kooyoo Peter

Kooyoo Peter was born in Cape Dorset on Baffin Island in 1966. He is the son of renowned Inuit artist Ejetsiaq Peter.

Kooyoo began carving seriously at the age of 18, although he was 13 when he first tried carving a seal. He prefers to work in black and white marble. He has been educated in the art of Jewellery making and has worked in silver, copper, brass and walrus ivory. His favourite subject matter is dancing bears and people in action. Kooyoo is known for his strong, well-executed pieces and challenging subjects with a sense of movement.

The work of Kooyoo Peter has been exhibited in galleries in Canada, United States, Germany and Switzerland.
